Tegu guards + the frog mage in same unit

I started painting with one page rules' Tegu Guards and our Anurarch the frog mage. I thought deeply about what to print first and paint after and decided finally with one of the main units in Saurian Ancients. Here is why from my perspective.

Initally, Tegu Guards, with as stats below is the main protector of our character frog mage which is one of our main strong points. Tegu guards are known as temple guards by old players.

Lets evaluate together. Resilient enough and with Str 5 (together with Patu), Tegu guards are fantastic killers with 2 attacks. They always strike at the end of the initiative (they are too slow) and they always take the first hit but after the first blow, they answer very strong. they have also lodestone and +1 armor penetration.

Lodestone – Close Combat, Shooting
Attack Attribute for Saurian Ancients

Attacks with Lodestone are subject to the following rules when rolling to hit:
• Close Combat Attacks allocated towards a model with Armour 3 or more gain +1 to hit.

So it means, if they attack an opponent with good armor levels their offence becomes 4 (instead of 3). They already have AP 1 and it makes +2 with Patu. They are stronger against tough opponents.

Tegu Guards have arm value of 2 , together with shield and light armor, it makes totally 4.

They have fearless and they have bodyguard skill when the frog mage is inside of the unit. Bodyguard skill makes them stubborn, as long as the Anurarch is still living in the unit. Lets check stubborn.

A unit with at least one model with Stubborn ignores Discipline modifiers from the Combat Score difference when taking Break Tests or Combat Reform Discipline Tests. When you think about also, minimised discipline tests, this whole unit becomes a strong defender for us on the table. They already have 8 discipline score. and with minimised discipline roll as below, they are very sturdy.

For dice rolls subject
to Minimised Roll, roll one additional D6 and discard the highest D6 rolled.

We need to roll 3d6; take out the biggest roll out and sum the other two and hope to not pass 8.

6,6,6 - 6,6,5 - 6,6,4 - 6,6,3 in dice results makes us to not pass that in 3 dice combinations. So there are 12 events in 216 probabilities to not succeed. This means we have %95 chance to pass any discipline test. Please warn me, if i have a calculation mistake here.

They have scoring and with communal bond, they give a good commanding presence of 8". Highest discipline value counts. Here is the rule definition as below.

Communal Bond
Universal Rule for Saurian Ancients

Units with more than half of their models with Communal Bond are subject to the following rules:
• They gain Swift Reform.
• Their Discipline Tests are subject to Minimised Roll while within range of a friendly model’s Commanding
Presence.
• R&F models with Scoring and R&F models in Compound Units gain Commanding Presence with the following
rules and restrictions: its range is set to 8″, and the models may choose to set their Discipline to the highest
Discipline value available in the unit for the purpose of this instance of Commanding Presence.

Magical resistant 2, oh my.... this part is interesting. Magical resistant rule gives all unit same value. Our anurarch is enjoying that and others.

Swift reform gives us the profit below, which makes the unit to reform and then make an advance move.

21.A.a.30 Swift Reform
During the Movement Phase, a unit containing one or more models with Swift Reform may execute a Swift Reform instead of a Reform . The unit makes a Reform with the following exceptions:
• The unit is not prohibited from shooting in the next Shooting Phase (but will still suffer the to-hit modifier for moving and shooting).
• The unit can perform an Advance Move after the Reform. For the purpose of no model being able to end its movement with its centre farther away than its Advance Rate from its starting position, measure this distance after the Reform.
• No model can end its movement (after an Advance Move) with its centre farther away than its March Rate from its starting position before the Reform.

ok. Tegu guards are great. But to understand this unit more, we need to check also Anurarch. Here is my Anurarch meanwhile. Ofcourse he is not finished but just wanted to share with you.

Here is the stats. lets continue.

Closely guarded means, Anurarch has stand behind, strider and exlusive in unit. Accept no duels. What the hell. He is safe here. Lets check the state.

The model can be placed anywhere inside its unit  ( This is what stand behind brings. Ok hide him in the middle or in the back of the unit.

Can not be stomped and fort +5 .

The model automatically passes Dangerous Terrain Tests caused by Terrain. If more than half of a unit’s models have Strider, the unit never loses Steadfast due to Terrain. Well tegu guards dont have strider. So?  In anyways they have stubborn here.

Lets turn back to our guards.

Tegu guards have banner enchantement. By bringing koru stone for 60 points we make the whole unit a great general.

All units within 12″ of a friendly non-Fleeing model with Rally Around the Flag may reroll failed Discipline Tests.

We Saurians stay strong with koru stone. Keep skink units around. We will march together.

An other nice option is aether icon. Which makes the total resistance of the unit to 3! But we have koru stone man. I dont even wanna check the other options.

They have the champion. Well if you like you can take. Tegu veteran could be cool here too. You can create a death star doing the scoring work in one block, by defending your frog mage.

Thats what i want to tell for the moment. As much as i play more games, i will have more experience and share with you.

I am just on my way of painting them. Here is the state at the moment. They look nice.

I sprayed them in black. Then drybrushed with greymix. Defined with pure white to angles where the light comes.

With a help of 5 drops of medium , i painted them with vallejo blue-green. ( lets say turqouise )

I will paint back sides in black and define eyes and details in orange or red.  Planning to make patus in brown. Well ...We will see.

Thanks for having me. See you in next thread.

Choosing your paint Scheme

So i was about to make my hardest decision. "Paint scheme" .  In this thread, i want to brain storm on color ideas and help you and myself on choosing the right colors. Lets start with this cute picture below. Any lizard will look nice with vibrant colors for sure. I am planning to paint all my chameleons in different colors. Is it too much ? What do you think ? Playing the lizards give a big chance on choosing colors. You can paint your minis in any color. There is no restriction for you at all. However just keep in your mind some delicate points. I am planning to paint tegus in orange/black for instance. That conuld create a nice look on the table, if you remember about my jungle bases in vibrant green colors. But i need to think about my carnasaur too. After imagining my orange tegu on carnasaur, i got little bit worried actually. jungle is green , carnasaur has to be in contrast with that and carnasaur has to be in contrast with the rider. People maybe painting tegus mor
